Press-On Nails, Wudu and Prayer
This is the question we are asked more than any other, and it is the one page on this site where we are going to be careful about what we do and do not say. We sell nails.
We sell nails. We are not qualified to issue a religious ruling and we are not going to imply one. What we can do is describe exactly what the product is and what removing it involves, because that is the part people are actually missing when they ask — and it is the part a marketplace listing that says “Halal Certified” in its title never explains.
What a press-on nail physically is
It is a separate, pre-shaped piece of material that sits on top of your nail, held there by adhesive. It is not painted onto the nail and it does not bond into the surface. Nothing soaks in and nothing is absorbed.
That is a different thing from nail polish, which is a liquid that dries into a continuous film sealed to the nail plate, and different again from acrylic or gel, which are cured onto the nail and have to be filed off.
How long removal takes
If the set was fitted with adhesive tabs, it lifts off in warm water in well under a minute, and often without water at all. Nothing is left behind on the nail.
If it was fitted with liquid glue, it takes longer — soak in warm water with a little oil for ten to fifteen minutes, then lift from the free edge. There is a film of dried glue underneath afterwards, which peels away with the wooden stick in the box.
Both methods are covered in detail in the removal guide, and the reason removal matters here is that it is the whole practical difference: this is a thing that comes off, not a thing that has to be dissolved or filed.
The practical answer most people arrive at
Every ANARA box contains both adhesive tabs and liquid glue, and the choice between them is usually made on exactly this basis.
Tabs give a few days of wear and come off in seconds, so a set can be taken off and put back on around the day. Glue gives up to fourteen days and does not. People who want to remove and reapply choose tabs; people who want a set that stays for two weeks choose glue. Neither is more correct — they are two different products in the same box, put there so the set can be worn either way.
What we are not saying
We are not telling you that press-on nails are permitted, and we are not telling you they are not. Whether a covering that lifts off in under a minute meets the requirement is a question of religious ruling, and the honest answer from a nail company is that it is not ours to give.
Ask someone qualified. Bring them the description above — that a press-on is a separate piece held by adhesive, that tabs release in seconds, that nothing is absorbed into the nail — because in our experience the question is usually answered once the product is described accurately, and most people asking have been picturing nail polish.
